Difficulties Transitioning into Adulthood for Teens and Young Men
Are you exhausted from trying everything you know to do to help your teen and it just isn’t working? You’ve likely heard your son ask, “What’s the point?” more times than you can count and he has increasingly struggled to complete his day to day tasks. You’ve seen all the potential he has if only he would apply himself, but recently his grades have been slipping, his behavior has become more reckless or apathetic, and he has lost the interest he once had in life. Are you ready for him to grow up and do his chores without being nagged repeatedly?
Your son will work with me to determine what he needs to move forward and get his life back on track. I have specialized training in setting goals, helping people achieve them, and determining what barriers are in the way, such as substance use, anxiety/stress/depression, and family struggles. I often work with parents in conjunction with their child to help parents figure out how to best support their children.
Early warning signs of failure to launch—a situation where young adults struggle with transitioning into independent adulthood—include:
- Lack of motivation: A noticeable disinterest in pursuing education, employment, or personal goals. They may seem apathetic about their future.
- Procrastination and avoidance: Consistently avoiding responsibilities such as applying for jobs, schoolwork, or household chores, often accompanied by excuses or delaying tactics.
- Dependence on parents: Relying heavily on parents for financial support, decision-making, and day-to-day tasks without making efforts to gain independence.
- Social withdrawal: Avoiding social interactions, staying isolated, and spending excessive time on video games, social media, or other escapist activities.
- Inability to handle stress or setbacks: Becoming easily overwhelmed by minor challenges, leading to avoidance rather than problem-solving.
- Lack of life skills: Struggling with basic life management tasks like budgeting, cooking, time management, and self-care, with little interest in learning or improving in these areas.
These signs can indicate difficulty in launching into adulthood and may require intervention to help the individual gain independence and direction.
Therapy for Boyfriends and Husbands
Are you a boyfriend or husband struggling to understand your partner? Do you feel like you’re trying but not making the emotional connection you’d like? Are you stuck when it comes to creating the intimacy and trust that will help your relationship grow? These challenges are common, but they don’t have to define your relationship. I specialize in helping men navigate these relationship dynamics, equipping you with the skills to be a more understanding, supportive, and engaged partner.
In today’s fast-paced world, it can be difficult for men to juggle their personal goals, work, and relationships. It’s easy to get caught up in misunderstandings, feel distant from your partner, or even lose the intimacy that once made your relationship feel special. That’s where therapy comes in—a space designed to help you unpack and rebuild.
In our sessions, we’ll work on practical strategies to help you:
- Understand your partner’s emotions: Whether you’re baffled by your partner’s feelings or unsure how to respond, I’ll help you understand the deeper emotional currents at play in your relationship. You’ll gain the tools to better read and empathize with your partner, opening doors to more meaningful communication.
- Create emotional and physical intimacy: Intimacy doesn’t just happen—it’s built. We’ll explore ways to increase emotional closeness, deepen trust, and spark more meaningful interactions that nurture both you and your partner.
- Manage relationship challenges: Relationships aren’t always easy, but with the right strategies, you can work through conflicts and build a healthier, more fulfilling connection.
- Become a better partner: By improving your communication and emotional awareness, you’ll learn how to show up fully in your relationship. You’ll develop into the kind of partner who can handle the inevitable challenges and strengthen your bond.
